School Name

E.W. Foster Public School (Milton)

E.W. Foster Public School was named in honour of the late Edgar William Foster, a distinguished citizen of Milton and long-time educator. Mr. Foster's leadership with Milton schools for more than four decades earned him the nickname, ‘Mr. Education.’ His son, Ian, followed in his father’s footsteps and is a former superintendent with the Halton District School Board.

His granddaughter, Anne Cesak describes him as “A very tall man who commanded a room and yet had a very gentle and happy voice. Our family had regular meals together and we enjoyed visiting him and my grandmother at their home in Milton.” News articles recognize him as Milton’s Citizen of the Year who volunteered for many organizations. Long after he retired, Mr. Foster was still well-known by students at the school when he would come in to read stories to them.
